Pakistan's seventh census was taken in 2023. Kot Addu city — the area of the Kot Addu Municipal Committee — counted 142,161 people, up from 129,859 in 2017. Kot Addu District, made up of the Kot Addu and Chowk Sarwar Shaheed tehsils, counted 1,486,758.
The census tables still file both tehsils under Muzaffargarh District, because Kot Addu District was only notified in December 2024. The district column below is the sum of the two tehsils.

Towns
Four places in the district are counted as urban. Together they are the whole urban population of the district. Mehmood Kot is counted as rural, so the census gives no separate town figure for it.

Literacy is the share of people aged 10 and over who can read and write. We calculated the percentages from the census counts — 441,460 literate out of 758,682 in Kot Addu tehsil, for example. Across the district, 66.23% of men and 48.47% of women aged 10 and over are literate.
Why other figures differ
Other numbers for Kot Addu circulate online. Wikipedia's 104,000 has no source and matches no census figure, and its 129,703 for 2017 differs from the census's 129,859. The Municipal Committee's website gives 179,730 for 2017 and 214,081 for 2024; neither matches a census table, and the second looks like a projection. This page uses only the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics tables. For the census back to 1951, see the City page.
