Kot Addu has no weather station of its own. The nearest is the Pakistan Meteorological Department's station at Multan, about 54 km to the south-east in a straight line (our calculation from the coordinates). The climate is hot desert (Köppen BWh): very hot summers, mild winters and little rain, most of it in the July–August monsoon.

Averages are the Pakistan Meteorological Department's figures for Multan, published by the World Meteorological Organization, which labels them 1981–2010. The yearly rain total is our sum of the months. The 2019 district gazetteer gives about 236 mm a year for the old Muzaffargarh district, without naming a station or period.

  • Most rain in a day: 134.2 mm on 3 September 1976.
  • Wettest year: 513.2 mm in 1992.

These are Pakistan Meteorological Department records for Multan, 1954–2020. A figure of 51°C for Kot Addu is often repeated, but we found no source for it.

When to visit

October to March is the comfortable season: January averages a high of 20.5°C and a low of 5.4°C. May and June average 41°C or more in the afternoon, and dust storms are common. See Visit for places to go.

Floods

In August 2010 the Indus carried 1,085,601 cusecs at Taunsa Barrage for about 22 days. The Left Marginal Bund breached and water reached Kot Addu, Sanawan, Mehmood Kot, Gurmani, Qasba Gujrat and Ghazi Ghat (District Gazetteer 2019). Read the 2010 flood story.
